What’s up everyone? It has been months since I have sat down to write, and what better way to come back than to update you on my skincare journey!? Back in January, I decided to take the plunge, and started getting routine facials about once a month. I talked a little bit about this here. Now that it is August [WHAT?!] I have half a year of experience to share. So here is my 6 month skincare update where I share the answer to…Are facials worth it?

First off…my skin story

For those who don’t know already, I’ve never had perfect skin. From the very beginning when something like ‘skin’ becomes a conversation…mine has been problematic. I was a lost little teen who used the HARSHEST drugstore face washes and masks. Little did I know I was making the problem way worse.

I have tried a lot of things. Lots of Neutrogena products, St. Ives, I even was gifted Proactive for my birthday once lol. I tried using less water when washing my face, only using two fingers to apply my cleanser, at home egg masks [lol], pretty much any trick in the book. However, my skin never cleared up!!!

My current skincare routine/philosophy

Bringing you back up to current day, I have a less is more philosophy. I DEFINITELY am not perfect, but I do think the way my skin looks today is the best it’s ever been! And that is saying a lot seeing that I have put my skin through the ringer. Let’s start off with cleanser.

PS. There is a section down below with all Amazon Shop Links!

I’ve been using this cleanser for years and I alternate between using my fingers and the Solo Mio Facial Brush to cleanse my face morning and night. This cleanser does a decent job at removing my makeup and cleansing my skin. It is very gentle and leaves my skin feeling clean but NOT stripped. I will also double cleanse, especially if I have a full face of makeup. In that case, I will start with an oil cleanser like Dermologica PreCleanse or One Love Organics Botanical B Enzyme Cleansing Oil then follow with my Purity Cleanser

After dabbing my skin dry with a soft towel, I always apply a moisturizer. For the past six months I’ve been using, AND LOVING, the Embroyolise Lait Creme Fluid. I started off using the concentrate but once I found the fluid I was sold. It is basically a more watered down version but a little still goes a long way. Recently I was introduced to a new moisturizer for summer because I have been more oily. My esthetician Allison recommended the Cosmedix Shineless Moisturizer and I bought it off Amazon. It has been working very well, I genuinely believe it has been combatting my oily-ness while still allowing my skin to look hydrated and glowy.

Pretty much since my first facial I have been using the Dermologica Skin Perfect Primer that is SPF 30. It is a tinted primer so it is especially perfect on no makeup days! It gives you a softer slightly filtered look and has the perfect amount of sun protection! I also love the Coola Organic Makeup Setting Sunscreen Spray which is also SPF 30 to reapply throughout the day.

Acne Spot Treatment

You may be surprised to find out that my acne spot treatment is not a product! It is actually a tool. Allison [my esthetician] uses LED light therapy during my facials and told me that I can use it at home to help treat any active acne spots and it also treats fine lines and wrinkles! I’ve been using the LightStim for Acne wand at home, and yes I call it a wand, because it is like magic! I turn the light on and hold it on any problem areas of my skin for 5 minutes each. I swear this thing works! It kills any bacteria and also has many anti-aging benefits.

The Moment You’ve Been Waiting For: FACIALS

Now that i’ve detailed you my skincare routine I can finally get to the juicy stuff. After getting a facial once a month for half a year…do I think it is worth it?! YES YES YES. Let me tell you…I would not be as confident in my skincare routine, if it weren’t for my monthly visits with Allison. While she is expertly cleaning out and treating my skin we are discussing my at home care, new products and treatments. I feel 10 times more educated and empowered to care for the ONLY set of skin I’ll ever have.

Throughout the first six months of this year I have gotten 2-3 Salicylic Acid Peel Facials, 1-2 Hydrafacials, sprinkled with a classic facial here and there. I’ve been consistently booking at No Filter Beauty in Redondo Beach [for all of you Los Angeles locals] with Allison who is my skin fairy god-mother. Has it been an investment? Yes! But it is so so so worth it! And if you are a makeup fiend like me, start with taking care of your skin! Doing makeup will be so much more enjoyable.

The Takeaway

As you can see in the photos above, my skin drastically improved in six months of getting consistent facials. Is it perfect and flawless? No, but I am way more happy and confident with it than I ever have been! The mixture of getting Salicylic Acid Peels with Hydrafacials seemed to be the right formula for my skin type. I also want to say that I wasn’t consuming sugar during this season and I think that has a huge hand in it as well!

There is no truer statement than that said by my magician esthetician Allison. She said that great skin is only 20 percent in her studio and 80 percent what you do at home! I completely agree! What you eat, how much water you drink, whether your makeup brushes are clean, and the products you use all contribute to your skin health! That being said, making facials a monthly priority for me helped keep my at home care on track! So for me they are a crucial piece of my skincare puzzle.

Thanks For Being Here!

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my skincare journey and stay tuned for more skincare updates as the next six months go by! If you are interested in purchasing any of the products I mentioned they are all linked and most are from Amazon! Shopping from my site helps support me and I am so thankful for any and all support!!!
