Hi guys and welcome back to Grace and Lipstick!! It has been a minute and I realize I have been starting every post lately with the same spiel. So rather than going on and on once more, lets just dive in. Life has been busy which is a good thing but as a result I haven’t been playing with my makeup or hair as much as I would like to. I try my best to put effort into getting dressed and ready everyday because I work at home and it mentally prepares me to go out and conquer my day. There are 5 essential makeup products that have been my SAVING GRACE when I don’t have time to be sitting at my vanity.
The five products I will be sharing with you today are my go to foundation, bronzer, brow pencil, eyeliner, and mascara. These are the makeup items I have been grabbing on the daily to quickly whip up a five minute makeup. Okay maybe ten minutes. Nonetheless they have been essential to my morning [or afternoon] makeup routine.
First and foremost I want to talk about my current favorite foundation. When I first bought this foundation I wasn’t thinking it would become my new favorite. But boy, oh boy did this foundation knock my socks off! I’m talking about the Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin. Thats right…it is a DRUG STORE foundation! What could be better?!
Apart from the fact that the cost of this foundation is significantly less expensive than high end foundation, another winning point is that it has SPF 15. Sun protection has become a MUST in my beauty routine as i’ve become increasingly aware of how damaging the sun is to our skin.
I typically apply this foundation with a dense synthetic buffer brush which is super fast and gives me a decent amount of coverage. It lasts very long throughout the day and doesn’t break apart or settle into any fine lines. I do set my face with powder but for those of you who don’t struggle with being oily you probably wouldn’t have to. All in all I have been using this foundation for a few months and it has yet to disappoint!
When I am in a hurry and especially if I have no where special to go, I wont bother with any blush or highlight. One thing I will NEVER skip on my face is bronzer. Sometimes I will bronze my face even if I’m not wearing foundation. For the last year my favorite bronzing powder has been the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil medium/deep matte bronzer. Regardless of what brush I use or how much product I use the finish of this bronzer is always flawless.
This matte bronzer works so well for me because I have acne scars on my face right where bronzer is applied. If there were any shimmer the bronzer would accentuate those divots and make them more visible. It is also the perfect shade as it warms up my face without being to warm or orangey.
I also feel that this bronzer is beginner friendly as it is not too soft or pigmented where you could easily get blotchy spots that look like dirt on your face. At the same time you can build up the pigment to get as bronze as you would like.
I also love to apply this bronzer on my eyelids and in my crease with a fluffy eyeshadow brush to quickly give my lids more depth. This is such a quick and easy step that makes a big difference. If I have a little more time I will grab a pencil brush and run this bronzer under my bottom lashes too.
3. Brow Pencil
I’m sure i’m not the only one who feels that when they don’t have their brows done their face just looks blah. At the same time, doing my brows always takes the longest and requires the most amount of patience. It is a delicate and time consuming process. The only way I have gotten any makeup on my brows during this busy time has been with the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil.
I just have to admit that Benefit Cosmetics knows brows! I have yet to try one of their brow products and been disappointed. The Goof Proof Brow Pencil however is my absolute favorite when I don’t have time to mess around. It gives me a very natural yet defined look and it is so easy. I think it is the combination of the softness of the product with the shape that really makes doing my brows quick and easy. It is truly “goof proof”.
Another huge bonus is that it is dual ended. One side has the product for your brow and the other side has a spoolie to help blend out and shape your brow hairs. Now all I need is for someone to create a brow pencil that has brow gel all in one product! That would really be a time saver.
For the longest time I stopped wearing eyeliner when doing a quick daily makeup. However, lately I’ve been feeling that it makes such a difference. I ordered a few new liners from Urban Decay and have fallen in love with their 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in the shade Whiskey. This eye liner is a very soft formula so it doesn’t tug on your eyelid at all when applying. It is also claims to be waterproof [within reason] which is a bonus for me because my eyes are constantly watering.
I love the color Whiskey because it is a deep dark brown but it is not black. Sometimes black can look too harsh or dramatic when you are just doing normal daily tasks. I just sweep a line over the top of my lashes making it wider on the outside and thinner on the inside. This makes my lashes appear fuller at the base and also opens up my eyes making me appear more awake.
The last thing that I will apply at least a little of when I am in a hurry is mascara. Without mascara my lashes are basically invisibly haha. One the hottest new mascaras on the market is the L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara. All I was hearing about from any beauty influencer I follow was how amazing this new mascara was. I was already a tried and true fan of L’Oreal’s Original Voluminous Mascara so I figured I would give this new one a shot too.
I have to say I am impressed! Is it my all time favorite, die hard, holy grail mascara? No, however I am still in love with it. I feel that for me it works well for giving my lashes more volume and making them look fuller. I like a bold lash and I don’t shy away from a more spidery look, although not clumpy. For me this mascara gives me all of the above and I’ll definitely be repurchasing it when I run out.
If there is one thing this mascara doesn’t do for me is that it doesn’t add much length. I have decent lashes so this isn’t a huge issue for me. However I noticed it because I’ve used other mascaras that give me a lot more length while also being voluminous. So if you are someone who needs length added this may not be your favorite.
Overall I can honestly say that these 5 essential makeup products have been the only way I get any makeup on during this busy season. They are all tried and true and will have a permanent spot in my makeup collection.
There are many different reasons why my life has been so busy lately but one of the biggest reasons is we are throwing my sister’s baby shower this Sunday! This is going to be the first baby for both sides of the family so we are all so excited and eager to welcome little lady Kordani into the world. I would love to do a post on the shower with all the party details including hair and makeup details. So be on the lookout for that!
Also I don’t wanna forget to mention that I am still planning on doing my week long cell phone cleanse! I am very determined to do it and honestly excited to have a mental retreat from my cell phone. I just have to pick the best week and make sure I have all my ducks in a row before giving it a go. That is definitely going to be a fun and interesting post so make sure you subscribe to be notified of any and all new posts on Grace and Lipstick.
That’s all for today loves! Thanks for being here and sharing this passion for beauty! I am having so much fun making posts for you guys and it is so rewarding to hear your thoughts and encouragements.
